Old versus young

- Petter 13.06.10. -
After a very nice Strathisla Vertical Tasting in Elgin where we got to taste som very nice old Strathislas, we got the idea to present some goodies in our own Nosing & Tasting.
Looks like they like what is in the glasses

We decided to present three different distilleries, and to present one young and one old Whisky from each of these distilleries just to be able to experience the significanse of maturation.

For the first time...
On our previous Nosing & Tasting sessions with guests, Chris Maile has guided us through the whole event. This time we decided to manage the event ourselves.
Petter presented the distilleries through pictures taken during our visits in Scotland, and he also said a few words about the production process. André guided us safely through the Nosing & Tasting.

The Whisky
We wanted to present only Whiskies from distilleries we have visited, and this time we decided on Glenfarclas, Knockdhu and Strathisla. The first two was visited on this years Spirit of Speyside, while the latter was visited in 2006.

Glenfraclas 12 was actually the first Whisky tested by the Whisky Club after our start in 2005, and is a typical Speyside and a very nice "every day-Whisky". Nose: a hinch of peat, fruit, chocolate. Taste: dried fruit, sweet.

Glenfarclas 30 is a very good new experience: absolutely more mature than the little brother. Nose: sweet, fruit, peat, raisins. Taste: a bit thinner that the nose indicates, but it grows, liquorice.

an cnoc 12 is an exciting Whisky from Cnockdhu Distillery which unfortunately is not to be found in Norway - something need to be done. Nose: citrus, liquorice, honey. Taste: sweet, dry.

an cnoc 1975 is a 30 years old which is matured in Bourbon and Cherry casks. Very good! Nose: vanilla, sweet. Taste: rich, long taste.

Strathisla 12 is a good Whisky at a reasonable price. Nose: Malt, citrus, hinch of peat, sherry. Taste: Shderry, vanilla, wood.

Strathisla 1963 is a very exciting 44 years old from Gordon & MacPhail. Significant more mature than the little brother. Nose: Sherry, fruity. Taste: rich, hinch of peat, Sherry, sweet.

All in all...
...this was a very nice evening. There was off cource different opinions regarding what was the best Whisky, but we all liked the comparison old <-> yoing.

Thank you all for a nice event - see you
